If you about to remodel your bathroom for a senior, elderly or disabled person, you might want to consider a few things. Make sure you remodeling project is done right the first time so you don’t have to modify it later.
Dave Davidson has been remodeling bathrooms for over 20 years now and knows all the little details that helps save you money first time. Here are a few tips to think about:
Take accessibility into consideration by making the bathroom door wide enough for a wheelchair or walker to get through. If you are remodeling your bathroom it isn’t that much more create a great doorway able to fit a wheelchair. Make sure the wheelchair can turn around in the newly remodeled bathroom so they can get into the shower or tub.
If you are doing a full bathroom remodel then replace the toilet with a handicap accessible one that will accommodate varied stages that the elderly go through. They are high off the ground for easier access and they don’t cost that much more than a regular toilet.
As seniors turn elderly their balance is not as sharp as it was when they were younger. There are many bathroom remodeling ideas for seniors and one of the biggest is handles. Handles around the bathroom give people places to grab onto without ripping something off the wall. Usually someone grabs a towel holder and that comes right out of the sheetrock creating a mess and a false sense of security. These handles can even be put into the bathtub or shower area.
